The 22nd annual Land Meets Sea Sports Camp, an outdoor adaptive sports camp offered by Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare, will be held August 8 to 10 in Long Beach at Marine Stadium and other nearby sites.

The camp, part of the Casa Colina Outdoor Adventures program, features adaptive water, land, recreation, and competitive sports activities for people with varying abilities, such as adaptive rock climbing, hand cycling, jet skiing, water skiing, outrigger canoeing, and sailing. Wheelchair sports include quad rugby, hockey, basketball, and tennis.

“The Land Meets Sea Sports Camp is truly one of a kind,” says Tommy Hollenstein, a participant in last year’s program. Hollenstein is paralyzed and wheelchair-bound due to a spinal cord injury from a biking accident nearly 30 years ago, according to a media release from Casa Colina.

“It is a great place for a newly injured person or person with a long-time disability to try out a variety of sports and feel 100 percent safe. For me, waterskiing is a thrill of a lifetime,” he adds.

The fee to participate in the camp is $300, and it includes participation in all events, lunch, a goodie bag, and a T-shirt.
