Arkray USA Inc, Minneapolis, announces the US commercial launch into the post-acute care market of Assure Slide, a gel formulated to assist people who have difficulty swallowing tablets, capsule, or powders.
Approximately 1 teaspoon of the gel is placed on a spoon along with one or more tablets. Assure Slide works by moistening the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat cavity—allowing tablets to easily pass through to the stomach, where the tablets can be digested and allowed to work as intended. Unlike other carriers that are used to facilitate the swallowing of tablets, Assure Slide breaks down immediately in the stomach and does not affect the absorption rate of the medication, according to the company, headquartered in Kyoto, Japan.
Two forms are available: Assure Slide Zero, a moderately thick formulation with a sugar-free raspberry flavor that is designed for those with slight to moderate swallowing issues; and Assure Slide Forte, an extremely thick, vanilla-flavored formulation for those with more acute swallowing difficulties.
