Consumers recently protested health insurers’ denials of coverage for essential medical care in front of the Nashville offices of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

Amputees are seeking state legislation in Tennessee requiring that health insurance companies provide coverage for prosthetic care on a par with that for all other essential medical care.

Bills were recently introduced with bipartisan sponsorship in the Senate and House of Representatives requiring that health insurers provide meaningful coverage for prosthetic care for members of employer-paid health plans.

The event was organized by the Tennessee Health Care Campaign, with support from the Knoxville-based Amputee Coalition of America

The Tennessee Health Care Campaign is a statewide, nonprofit organization seeking to gain  accessible care for all Tennesseans. The Amputee Coalition is a national, nonprofit amputee consumer educational organization that represents those who have experienced amputation or are born with limb differences.
