Irvine, Calif-based Zimmer MedizinSystems recently announced the OptonPro Class IV laser is now available in the United States. The OptonPro is described by Zimmer as a device that offers 7 Watts (7,000 mW) of peak power and touch screen menu.

The device is intended to be useful in the treatment of myofascial pain syndromes, painful trigger points, musculoskeletal diseases, tendon injuries, and other conditions, according to the Zimmer website. Other advantages associated with laser treatment include biostimulation with tissue regeneration, perfect localization, and beneficial effects produced in a short period of time. A media release from Zimmer states that the OptonPro’s 7 watts of peak power can “offer clinicians fustier treatments and an optimal depth of penetration.”

According to the Zimmer website the OptonPro uses four simultaneously operating diodes to transmit energy to an applicator through a flexible fibre optic cable. Two wavelengths are used, and the system reportedly includes a comprehensive set of safety features.

More information is available at the Zimmer website.
