New technology aims to provide an economic, advanced tool engineered to allow older adults or others who live alone and have physical or intellectual disabilities to maintain an independent lifestyle. Evermind features a design intended to be unobtrusive and uses three sensors to monitor small electrical appliances.

A news release from the Nashville, Tenn-based company of the same name reports that by using built-in wireless Internet, the technology then allows family members to receive text messages or email notifications when an appliance is used or not used within a specific time period—usually when changes in daily routines could be a cause for concern, such as making coffee in the morning or watching the evening news.
