Helen Hayes Hospital introduces a new Functional Strength Training class aimed at helping to improve everyday function and activity for patients living with life-altering injuries and conditions.
Led by hospital Personal Trainer and Adaptive Equipment Specialist, Milford Edwards, the 6-week/2-day-per-week group sessions kick off in January 2019.
Functional Strength Training classes will focus on flexibility, mobility, and strength to improve the performance of everyday activities. The classes will utilize light dumbbells and resistance bands, as well as chair, mat and bodyweight exercises and more.
Milford Edwards is certified in group fitness instruction, including boxing and cross training, and holds additional certifications in TRX Suspension Training and the administration of CPR/AED. Edwards is also a USA Boxing coach and former amateur boxer, according to a Helen Hayes Hospital media release.
Functional Strength Training classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 1 hour in the hospital’s auditorium and cost $125 per 6-week session.
